Steampunk MDF Box

Good Morning all you crafter's out there.
I do hope your all well and loving your crafty time!!

Today i wanted to show you a gorgeous MDF Hinged Lid Box.
Made by & Available from That Craft Place Ltd

I have gone down the trail of Mixed Media which is still new to me but i am totally hooked now & i am always on the lookout for things to stick and glue onto my projects.

Picture heavy so hopefully you don't get bored but i wanted to show you step by step photo's on how i created my box.
(and also so i don't forget as i have such a bad memory these days and in case i want to do another box)

Firstly prime the MDF box .... i used multi surface primer
Next use crinkly type tissue paper which i ripped into strips & coated with the primer & then laid onto the box & started to push it about to make little pleats & creases. (very messy but such fun lol)
I traced around my MDF Heart where it was going to be so as not to put the tissue there as i wanted it to lay flat down & would be easier to glue down later on.

Heart measures 19cm x 10cm at the widest part.

Next paint a layer of Gesso all over the box, this will make it easier for everything to stick together and paint later on.
I also applied some texture paste through a stencil down the side of the lid.
Next i added all my bits and bobs to the lid. I also added card what i had embossed to all the sides.
You can also see what the hinge on the lid looks like.

The MDF heart had texture paste applied through a Stencil too.
This is what the Box looks like so far with a good coat of Gesso ready for painting.

A close up of the Heart with the Texture Paste, Lot's of Dies & the tubes on the left are paper straws. The bobbly bits are seed beads & micro beads mixed together with some Multi  Surface Primer & then applied randomly to the box.

Next i painted EVERYTHING with Black acrylic paint. (i really liked it at this stage)

Now for the paints... I used a dark purple Acrylic Paint and dry brushed everything apart from the Heart. Then i used a lighter purple to high light more of the raised bits.

The heart was dry brushed with a Turquoise & then the texutre bits were highlighted with Cosmic Shimmers Shimmer Paints (these are so vibrant & add such a lovely shine)

Next i added dies, flowers and a lock i made out of Fimo with a silicone mould.

Flowers on the heart were sprayed with Deco Art Sprays & then dry brushed the edges with the gorgeous Shimmer Paints & added some Viva Alt Gold in several shades.

Phewww at last i have got to the end!! lol
Sorry for such a long post but wanted to show the different stages.

Here it is all finished!!

Here's a front view of it all finished

Steampunk and i love it!!

Hello all you Crafter's, i hope all is good in your Crafty World!

Today is the start of a New Challenge at That Craft Place

Theme is one of my Favourites - Steampunk

There's a few photo's to show you how i made my project.
Hopefully i won't bore you but thought some may find it helpful with a few step by steps on how i made it.

The picture shows Grey Board Laser Cut but i had mine cut in MDF which is such good quality from That Craft Place Ltd

First prime the MDF with All Round Medium, once dry i applied Texture Paste through some Stencils.

Then paint over it all with Gesso so that the paints etc will not come off.
Next i painted it with Acrylic Paints in Turquoise and Cerise and then with White Acrylic Paint i dry brushed all the edges to tone it down. The back piece of the Frame i painted black and again dry brushed with white paint.

Now to start adding the papers which i roughed the edges up.

I added several Die Cuts around the edges before i glued the frame to the Backing MDF piece.
All die cuts were sanded all over and aged with Distress Inks (Full List of colours at the end of the post)

Here's the image i used from That Craft Place Etsy Store called The Pilot.
Coloured with Copics on the Super Smooth Card from That Craft Place.

I also added Inka Gold to the raised bits i had done with Texture Paste to add a bit of shimmer.
